Abruzzi Rye - Brooklyn Granary & Mill

Abruzzi Rye - Brooklyn Granary & Mill

Fulfilled by our friends at Brooklyn Granary & Mill.

NOTE: This fresh milled flour is shipping once a week on Fridays. Order by EOD Thursday.

Along with legumes, Rye is a powerhouse crop in the crop rotation for regenerative grain farmers. According to the USDA, it is great for "scavenging nitrogen, reducing soil erosion, adding biomass to the system, and suppressing weeds." It also helps break up disease cycles and can grow in most soils and most climates.

Besides all of those benefits for the soil, Rye is delicious! It is sweet with some caramel apple flavor and baking spices. 100% Rye bread is a delicacy to be savored. Rye flour can be added in varying amounts to both bread and pastries. And, the whole kernel is great in soups and salads.

Abruzzi Rye is an Italian heirloom variety grown organically in Maryland by Migrash Farm. The kernels are longer, more slender, and darker in color than other rye. It's fantastic for baking and is more savory and has more baking spice notes than other rye varieties.
